About Kelsey City
Lake Park, originally known as Kelsey City, was founded by Harry Seymour Kelsey on November 26th, 1922. Kelsey City was designed for working people and is believed to be Floridas first zoned community. At one point, the quaint waterfront town was known as The Worlds Winter Playground. Due to a devastating hurricane in 1928, the booming real estate market crashed and left Harry Seymour Kelsey with serious financial problems forcing Kelsey to sell the city. In 1939 the residents decided they wanted a fresh start and changed the name to Lake Park. The town's 6-acre waterfront park was named Kelsey Park in honor of its founder and is now home to the historical Evergreen House. Lake Park retains the original series of rectangular blocks and many of the Craftsman Bungalow style homes designed in the 1920s. Many of these magnificent homes have been recently updated and include the latest upgrades but still maintain the old Florida charm. Lake Park residents enjoy the picturesque waterfront location, revitalized downtown area, and many other phenomenal features that The Jewel of the Palm Beaches has to offer.
